Bottles, cans, plastic bags, Styrofoam, paper, paint, batteries, TVs..what do you do with all
this stuff? There are a lot of decisions to make when it comes to properly managing waste.
The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District regulates the management of all solid waste generated within the District boundaries and waste delivered to the WLSSD transfer station from outside the District through the WLSSD Solid Waste Ordinance.
There are many services available within the WLSSD that allow for the proper management of all
business and residential waste. Local garbage haulers
pick up garbage from area residents and
businesses, and deliver it to the WLSSD transfer station, where the material is inspected and loaded
into larger trucks for transport to the City of Superior, WI landfill. Garbage haulers collect
recyclable materials from
residents and businesses in cities and towns within the district. Rural residents can take advantage
of the many recycling sheds and sites located throughout
the district for their recycling needs.
The WLSSD Materials Recovery Center and Household
Hazardous Waste Facility are also available to assist residents and businesses in
properly disposing of waste and other
hazardous materials.
Although the District boundaries include a portion of northern Carlton County, solid waste is managed in that area by the county. Carlton County residents and businesses should refer to Carlton County for more information on garbage and recycling.
