
Several items are banned from the trash within the WLSSD service area. These items have been banned because they contain hazardous materials, are recyclable, or simply have better uses than being put into a landfill.
The list of banned materials includes:

- Tires
- Asbestos
- Hazardous Waste
- Household Hazardous Waste
- Infectious Waste
- Pathological Waste
- Medical Sharps
- Yard Waste

Recyclable Materials include:
Aluminum, steel, and tin beverage containers, corrugated cardboard, glass food or beverage containers, magazines or catalogs, newspaper or newsprint, office paper, plastic containers labeled #1 or #2.
Electronic Waste includes:
- Electronic equipment with a display screen or monitor 7” or larger including TVs, computer monitors, and video devices
- Computer systems, facsimile machines, or rechargeable and mercury battery items
Appliances include:
- air conditioners
- dehumidifiers
- dishwashers
- clothes washers and dryers
- freezers
- furnaces
- microwave ovens
- refrigerators
- stoves
- water heaters
