The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District regulates the management of all solid waste generated within the District boundaries and waste delivered to the WLSSD transfer station from outside the District through the 2006 WLSSD Solid Waste Ordinance.
WLSSD does not operate garbage pick-up service. Independent garbage haulers offer services to local residents and businesses.
The Materials Recovery Center and the Household Hazardous Waste facility provide disposal options for those items that are banned from the regular garbag and may not be managed by garbage haulers.
WLSSD promotes recycling and waste reduction activities through community education, outreach programs and tours.
