All garbage delivered to the WLSSD Transfer Station is taken to a solid waste landfill in Superior, Wisconsin. The garbage comes from as far away as Grand Marais, MN and Ashland, WI. More than 120,000 tons of garbage passes through WLSSD's transfer station each year. This amount is growing larger every year.
What can you do to make a difference? Reducing the amount of waste you create can help. Knowing what can be a recycled and recycling as much as possible also makes a difference. "Recycling right" and following recycling guidelines helps to ensure that recyclable items actually becomes a new product is also important!
Solid waste services and public education about recycling and source reduction are supported at WLSSD by a solid waste management fee.
