Reducing Waste:

Exchange Programs

MRC

The WLSSD Materials Recovery Center offers a location for residents to pick up free, usable items that have been disposed of by MRC customers. Item selections change frequently; common items include bicycles, old lawn mowers, and furniture. Visit the MRC during regular business hours to see items.

Minnesota Materials Exchange

The Minnesota Materials Exchange is a business reuse network linking organizations with excess, reusable goods to those groups that can use them. This program helps keep usable materials from becoming waste.

Membership and registration are free. Individuals can occasionally receive materials, but cannot list requests. Listings are maintained online; Visit www.mnexchange.org for more information.

Freecycle

The Freecycle Network is an international, grassroots network of people who post unwanted household items online for other members to take for free. Local groups are run by volunteer moderators. This type of giving and receiving helps keep items out of the garbage and reduces waste. To find the closest active group, visit www.Freecycle.org
